At ecUtopia, we’re more than EDI! Why don’t we take a break from thinking about EDI for a few moments!
Let’s face it, work can consume our time and energy. Sometimes I have to step back from the day to day grind and look around me, and remind myself of how good my world really is. I have my family and friends, my health, and a roof over my head. I even have some extras, and yes, I have worked hard to have some extras.
One way to remind myself of how good my world is…I do volunteer work in my community. I volunteer and I am proud of it! Sometimes I bring family or friends along and introduce them to the world of volunteering. With our busy lives, it can be hard to find the time. However, the benefits are enormous, both personally and within the community. Dedicating your time as a volunteer can also help you expand your network, meet new contacts, and boost your social skills. It allows you to connect to your community and make it a better place. It’s a win all the way around!
At ecUtopia, we encourage and support volunteer programs within our community. Doing good work in the community is its own reward, but there are positives for business too. Companies that encourage community involvement distinguish themselves from their competitors, and see many benefits, including happier employees, respect in the community, and social responsibility. Volunteerism is a great way to engage employees, strengthen your image, while improving your community.
So step back, look around, and see what you can do to improve your own community. Whether you feed the homeless, visit the elderly, read to children, participate in a beach cleanup, organize a food drive, whatever it is, find something you’re interested in and volunteer for a few hours. Get involved! Make a difference!
